Responsibilities of PCBU's and workers
Pcbu is best known and understood as a person conducting a business or undertaking.
Pcbu’s and workers have many important and vital responsibilities throughout the workforce. Pcbu’s are responsible for :
- Establishing policies and producers, in the line with government legislation, that detail how the organization will handle the health, safety and security of their workers.
- Ensuring that the workplace is safe. All due care must be taken to ensure that hazards are minimized and controlled. These could include such issues as:
- Blocked passageways and exits
- Faulty electrical wiring
- Noise and lighting levels
- Providing adequate chemical storage facilities
- Providing safe work areas, machinery and equipment. Work areas, machinery and equipment must be maintained at all times.
Regular checks should be done to ensure safety standards are met.
- Providing information, Instructions , training and supervision. Training and instruction should be given when:
- New staff members start work introducing them to the WHS policies and procedures as well as teaching them how to use any piece of equipment
- Providing personal protective equipment
- Providing appropriate welfare felicities
- Maintaining information and records relating to the health and safety of PCBU's
The Worker is responsible for:
- Following safety instructions
- Using equipment carefully and according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Reporting any hazards and injuries
- Not interfering with or misusing WHS items provided
- Attending all relevant training sessions
- Not deliberately putting the health and safety of others at risk
- Most importantly working in accordance with any relevant government regulations
